French drummer Florian Chaigne is a classically-trained percussionist, who has experienced playing in rock and metal bands before continuing to study jazz and compositions. After having founded local funk and jazz-world bands, he is now exploring free-improvised music. This cross-disciplinary experience helped him to shape his first solo album, «Blooming».

Properly speaking this is not only a solo album, since only a third of the tracks are pieces for drums solo. Drums and percussions – still too often thought only as accompaniment instruments – are put here into the limelight. The challenge of this part is to get the listeners immersed in a subjective sound made by timbral subtleties, where they could also image to play themselves the drums.

In the second part many guests join to share their musical energy with Florian, creating eleven pieces, without any rules but two: they had to be completely improvised and they had to be short.
We can listen to duos, trios and quartets where the drums are now talking, supporting, contrasting, being silent. In a permanent relationship with the others, in a dialogue with life.

Like a blooming flower, indeed.

"Bad Man" is a Langston HUGHES' poem.
"Gold Fish" & "More Whore" are Taran SINGH's poems.
